As a conflict resolution practitioner, the ability to manage stress is part of the job description. We are trained to focus on our parties, listen to the language they use, filter through what they are saying, and keep the conversation moving, all while managing a range of emotions in the room. With this in mind, when do you find time for you?

Taking time to practice self-care is a necessity for the health and well-being of all individuals, especially for conflict resolution practitioners who consistently put themselves in the middle of high conflict situations. This session is designed to explore experiences, build awareness, and learn new skills. It is structured as a world cafe where participants will have the opportunity to focus on three subsets of self-care: cognitive mindfulness, physical benefits, and breathing styles.

NVMS Conflict Resolution Center is a community dispute resolution center in Fairfax, Virginia affiliated with the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University and a member of the Virginia Association for Community Conflict Resolution. The mission of NVMS is to equip the Northern Virginia community to constructively address conflict by providing: 1) Mediation, facilitation, and restorative practice services to resolve disagreements, 2) Training to develop skilled practitioners who deliver mediation, facilitation, and restorative practice services, and 3) Education for community members about alternative approaches to addressing conflict.
