Program Objectives:

• Understand the history of autism spectrum disorder as a diagnosable condition and the revision of the DSM as it applies to ASD.
• Understand the triad of impairments and common challenges associated with ASD as described by Lorna Wing and others. These are described as deficits in:

  • Social communication
  • Social interaction
  • Social imagination

• Identify ways of supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and capitalizing on their strengths.
• Identify strategies for effective communication and social interaction in different environments.

 

Tentative room assignment based on enrollment is Elson Hall 186. Registration and check in 8:15-8:30 a.m. All sessions begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m.
