The upheaval in the world continues to impact our lives socially, economically and environmentally. World events – pandemic, Afghanistan and weather – very quickly have local impact. During this time, Connect Community has continued the work of community building in Gulfton/Sharpstown as well as reimagining a neighborhood that will be better prepared to withstand the impacts of future calamities. This has included training and developing the workforce pipeline, working with schools to build emotional resilience in students, teachers and families, and building infrastructure to be environmentally sound and withstand future challenges. As the community quarterback we have strived to ensure EVERY resident has an equal chance to grow and thrive, and we are now at the precipice of exciting new changes.

So, this year, along with reimagining the neighborhood, we are reimagining our traditional fundraising event. We invite you to join us in "Breaking Ground" in Gulfton/Sharpstown and humbly request your support of our mission.

In addition, this year’s event underwriting will be used to leave a lasting legacy in the community. We are designing an art piece to be installed in the future Connect South apartments in which the material expression, geometry, and colors will be created through a collaboration with community artisans and youth.

As an underwriter, each level correlates to a color that will be used in the artwork. The colors are representative of the diversity of Gulfton/Sharpstown and bring together Islamic and Greek inspired architectural designs to create a dynamic art piece that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come. I hope you will decide to be part of this amazing journey.

Please keep an eye out for our emails leading up to the event where we will reveal more about how we are breaking ground this year.  As always, thank you for your steadfast support.

Connect Community

Formed in 2016, Connect Community is a nonprofit that grew out of a partnership that began in 2013 among four organizations working in Sharpstown/Gulfton: the YMCA of Greater Houston, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Legacy Community Health, and KIPP Houston Public Schools. Connect was formed to go beyond the scope of any of these individual organizations by serving as the coordinating body and the eyes and ears of the community. At Connect, we strongly believe that when organizations and local residents collaborate and align their efforts, they can mobilize a broader network of assets to meet local needs, improve lives, and strengthen the community.
