The theme for the event is the Everyday. Every day we engage in inspired work. And in the nooks and crannies of our days, moments bubble up seemingly cosmically connecting the small every day experiences into giant leaps forward for our community, i.e. new immigrants convert their hours of leadership training into a collective petition for safer streets at Houston City Council; an Iraqi refugee makes the leap from ESL classes to a certified nursing assistant class to a hospital position; and a student, through his social and emotional learning experiences, recognizes, by sharing his story, the power of vulnerability. In the quotidian, one may not see the changes. But every day we look for and fill both the infrastructure and the human capital gaps. Everyday. And by sowing these seeds, every now and again, all the seemingly disparate conversations combine to produce BIG moments of clarity, bravery and grace.

Please join us at our third annual Connect + Amplify luncheon and learn how our Connect to Character  Social and Emotional Learning program encourages our kids to convert everyday challenges into opportunities for reflection, growth, and change in order to build more connected classrooms, dinner tables, and car rides home. Everyday.

This gathering will bring together city leaders, community members, nonprofit partners, and all those who believe that Houston is better when we all have the opportunity to thrive. Together with our founding partners, Legacy Community Health, YMCA of Greater Houston, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and KIPP Texas Public Schools we invite you and your guests to join us and celebrate the stories of those who have amplified their own lives through the powerful formula of hard work and just the right amount of support and those who see these stories as ones of hope and possibility for their own lives.

Formed in 2016, Connect Community is a nonprofit that grew out of a partnership that began in 2013 among four organizations working in Sharpstown/Gulfton: the YMCA of Greater Houston, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Legacy Community Health, and KIPP Houston Public Schools. Connect was formed to go beyond the scope of any of these individual organizations by serving as the coordinating body and the eyes and ears of the community. At Connect, we strongly believe that when organizations and local residents collaborate and align their efforts, they can mobilize a broader network of assets to meet local needs, improve lives, and strengthen the community.
