Join us for a one-day conference at beautiful Chambers Bay in University Place, WA. 

The healthcare environment is complex and ever-changing.  As an infection preventionist, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff is a top priority.   This conference will provide an overview of many of the infections risks that healthcare staff face everyday.  Topics will include water safety, legionella epidemiology, construction protocols, overview of construction-related infections, and high-level disinfection and sterilization. 

Intended Audience: 

Infection preventionists from a variety of healthcare settings (e.g., hospitals, long-term care, ambulatory care), nurses, physicians, environmental services, facilities managers, quality experts, epidemiologists, public health.

  • Dr. Catherine Whapham, Global Product Manager with Pall Medical.  Dr. Whapham will discuss water safety in healthcare.
  • Dr. Vivian Hawkins and Rad Cunningham from the Washington State Department of Health.  This presentation will focus on the epidemiology of legionella and provide an overview of proper environmental sample collection for waterborne pathogens.   
  • Dr. Steven Pergam and John Fauver from Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Fred Hutch.  This presentation will provide a review of pathogens associated with healthcare construction and mitigation strategies.
  • Hot topics session on antimicrobial resistant organisms, dialysis, and high-level disinfection/sterilization.
