Coaches, Kids & Chemicals Summit

Coaches, Kids and Chemicals is a one day workshop for coaches, athletic trainers, athletic directors, teachers, boosters, and student athletes interested in deterring and delaying student use of alcohol and other drugs. Coaches are second only to parents in quality time spent with mentoring student athletes. Coaches are respected and have influence in student athletes lives. Research has identified participation in school sports as a protective factor in reducing alcohol and other drug use among youth. Participants in the workshop(s) will learn the following:

· Injury Prevention & Pain Management without Medication

· Alcohol/Other Drug Use Warning Signs & Resources

· How to implement effective student peer-to-peer prevention education for athletes

· Encouragement of a Strong Proactive Alcohol/Other Drug Prevention School/Community Climate.

Schools participating in this year’s Coaches, Kids & Chemicals will have the opportunity to apply for a mini-grant from the Coalition. The purpose of the funding is to ensure implementation of prevention strategies learned and developed at the event.
