This is our first choral workshop and we are so excited! This workshop gives you a chance to improve some of the finer details of your singing and performance skills. Each Monday we will focus on a different topic. You can pick and choose whether to come to one workshop or all four and there is no obligation to join the choir in the fall, but you are certainly welcome to. The choice is yours! Registration begins Tuesday, June 25th and there are limited spots.

WHEN? Mondays, Aug 5-Aug 26

TIME? 7 pm - 9 pm

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? While our choir is an adult choir, we are opening up our workshop to ages 12 and up.

WHAT TO BRING? Water, pencil, an open mind and willingness to participate

WHAT TO WEAR? Comfy clothes that you can easily move “exercise” in. We do a lot of movement in our workshops.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

AUGUST 5: VOCAL TECHNIQUE PART I (TAUGHT BY KAWIKA BERTHELETTE)

This first session is part one of a two part session where we will focus on the building and strengthening the foundations for great singing. Every needs the basics, and even if you know them, it’s always good to go back to them and make sure they’re still strong. Here we will be focusing on techniques such as breathing, support, resonance, placement, blending and more. *While it is not required to attend both sessions, it is recommended.

AUGUST 12: VOCAL TECHNIQUE PART II (TAUGHT BY KAWIKA BERTHELETTE)

This session we will be a continuation of the previous week where we will continue to build and strengthen our foundation. We will continue to focus on techniques such as breathing, support, resonance, placement, blending and more. *while it is not required to attend both sessions, it is recommended.

AUGUST 19: MUSIC THEORY 101 (TAUGHT BY KAWIKA BERTHELETTE)

During this session we will focus on basic music theory to help strengthening your music reading skills and in turn build your confidence during your rehearsal time. Everything from counting your rhythms to sight reading will be covered. This day will be very kinesthetic so please wear clothing you can easily move around/work out in.

AUGUST 26: VOCAL EXPRESSION (TAUGHT BY BRITNEY FARR)

For our last session we will be focusing on the face. Singing is a whole body and mind experience, and the more we as singing can connect emotionally and express it, the more we can draw our audience and touch their soul. Using acting techniques, this session will focus on tapping into the emotions of music and letting your face express those emotions.
