So here’s the story:
In February of 1978, the Chico Judo & Jujitsu Academy moved to a larger venue on Broadway in downtown Chico. At this time, Professor “Bud” Estes and Sensei Rich Radcliffe implemented the name change to Chico Kodenkan. It incorporated “Chico” from the Chico Judo & Jujitsu Academy and "Kodenkan” from Master Okazaki’s dojo.
Coincidentally, 45 years ago this week, I started my Danzan Ryu journey with Professor Estes and Sensei Radcliffe. Fast forwarding to 1996 upon Sensei Radcliffe's suggestion, his senior students, Sensei Todd Birdseye and I, adopted Professor Jane Carr as our AJJF Sensei. This started my 26-year journey as Professor Carr's student.
And last year in May, Chico Kodenkan moved from its downtown 1st Street location (which we occupied for over 20 years) to our new home. So, I've taken the liberty of inviting my current instructors and training partners as well as my Sensei’s West Coast senior students to come, teach, celebrate, and share the stories and techniques of the late Professor Jane Carr.
