Workshop 1: Using Personal Experience in Your Writing with Abdi Nazemian
10:00am-11:00am
Learn to strengthen your writing in any genre by using your personal experiences. Author Abdi Nazemian will explore aspects of his personal experiences that give truth and strength to his stories and the characters that he writes about.
Workshop 2: THE HORROR, THE HORROR with Jonathan Maberry
11:05am-12:05pm
Horror fiction is making a huge comeback in fiction, comics, TV and movies. Whether it’s tales of vampires and ghosts or serial killers on the hunt, these stories speak to our deepest fears and get our blood racing. NY Times bestselling-author and five-time Bram Stoker Award winner Jonathan Maberry discusses the genre and its many subgenre, peels back the legends behind classic monsters, and offers advice on how to sell to this hungry, hungry market. The first ten-episode season of Jonathan’s vampire series, V-Wars is now streaming on Netflix series (starring Ian Somerhalder).
Workshop 3: Let's Plan a Murder (Mystery) with Kathy Krevat
1:00pm-2:00pm
Kathy Krevat is the author of the GOURMET CAT MYSTERY series featuring cat food chef Colbie Summers and her demanding cat Trouble, the culinary muse behind her recipes. She also writes the bestselling CHOCOLATE COVERED MYSTERY series under the pen name, Kathy Aarons. Her short story “One Flu Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was selected for the Crossing Borders Anthology coming out in March 2020.
Workshop 4:  Writing for Film and TV with Nick Zayas
2:05pm-3:05pm
A look inside the life of a working screenwriter balancing both film and TV projects. We'll discuss the difference between feature and episodic storytelling, the craft of breaking story, the daily grind of churning pages, how a writers room works, and everything Nick wished he knew in high school.
Workshop 5: Main Character Meet and Greet with Laura Preble
3:10pm-4:10pm
The main character of your fiction will be in the driver’s seat, so you really need to get to know them! This hands-on workshop will give you some tools to meet your main character and flesh them out so you are prepped and ready to write whatever journey you have in mind for them.
