COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Cardiac Arrest Response (CAR) re-certification course requires registered nurses (RNs) certified in CAR to demonstrate the delegated acts of (a) defibrillation; (b) transcutaneous pacing; (c) and administration of life-saving medications.  In addition, participants are required to complete a re-certification test with a passing mark of greater than or equal to 90%.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the learner will demonstrate the ability to:

1.                   State the purpose and indications for defibrillation, cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing. 

2.                   Recognize lethal dysrhythmias for which defibrillation and transcutaneous pacing are indicated.

3.                   Demonstrate safe defibrillation and transcutaneous pacing in the adult patient. 

4.                   Identify the medications that may be given in a cardiac arrest.

5.                   State the doses for medications that may be given in a cardiac arrest. 

6.                   Demonstrate treatment priorities of patients experiencing cardiac arrest. 

 

7.                   State roles and responsibilities in a cardiac arrest situation with or without a physician present.
