IStructE UAE Regional Group Committee is inviting you to a talk by Will Arnold, Head of Climate Action – IStructE, on the topic “Calculating embodied carbon (and quickly!).
This will be a face-to-face event held at Taj Dubai, Business Bay, Dubai.
Will Arnold will take attendees through approaches to designing low-carbon structures and on calculating carbon quickly to aid better decision-making.
Calculating embodied carbon continues to gain importance around the world. And with all eyes on the UAE’s sustainability activities during COP28, there has never been a better time to start to learn about how you can calculate embodied carbon on your projects, and how to do so quickly and efficiently.
We all know how to size structural elements quickly (span/25 and WL2/8 usually gets us most of the way there!) – so what is the equivalent for understanding the carbon footprint. Without this knowledge, how can we quickly identify which of our scheme design options are most likely to be low-carbon?
Attendees will be assumed to have at least the basic knowledge of what a carbon calculation entails. To help with this, we provide three references:
