CAHIIM

The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) strives to provide the public with effective and consistent quality monitoring of health informatics and health information management (HIM) programs through maintenance of accreditation processes. CAHIIM is the globally recognized and trusted accreditation organization for Health Informatics and Health Information Management education programs to ensure the development of a workforce that meets the challenge of an information-intensive environment and its impact on global health. CAHIIM, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization accredits associate and baccalaureate degree programs in health information management, and masters’ degree programs in the health informatics and health information management professions in the United States and Puerto Rico. When a program is accredited by CAHIIM, it means that it has voluntarily undergone a rigorous review process and has been determined to meet or exceed the Standards set by the Board of Directors.

Bridgette Stasher-Booker, Ph.D. RHIA, CHTS-IM, MCCT is a native of Mississippi, and currently serves as Associate Professor and Chair of Alabama State University’s Health Information Management Program. She is a graduate of Mississippi College, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. She received her Master’s degree in History and a Doctoral degree in Public Policy and Administration with emphasis in Policy Analysis both from Jackson State University. She is a published author and certified as a Lean Six Sigma White Belt. In 2021, she served as Co-PI for Association of State Public Health Nutritionists project: “Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment of HBCU in the Deep South” and lead on the CDC Diabetes Prevention Program Initiative. In 2020, she served as the primary evaluator for the American Diabetes Association Pfizer Foundation Social Determinants of Health Grant Program, and as PI on the U.S. Air Force Small Business Technology Transfer Program Project: “SIMI (Service Interoperability for Medical Information).”

Georgeanna N. Wright, DHA, CHDA, CPHIMS, ITILv3, currently serves as Assistant Professor and Graduate Student Advisor for Arkansas Tech University’s Health Informatics and Health Information Management Programs. She is a graduate of George Washington University, University of Mississippi, and the University of Phoenix. Dr. Wright has held roles as a Staff Principal Investigator for the U.S. Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Behavioral Scientist and Lead Evaluator for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Wright previously spent many years in healthcare, with Kaiser Permanente and Greenwood Leflore Hospital. She has also served as a Senior Project Manager for United Healthcare, where she earned Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training. Dr. Wright currently leads research in a student-assisted health informatics project, with the focus on NLP and SDOH with Weill Cornell School of Medicine. She is the Student/Education Chair and member of the Board of Directors for the Arkansas Chapter of HIMSS.

She teaches courses related to clinical quality management, healthcare management, and the U.S. healthcare system. She has over 15 years of healthcare experience. Her career has included positions in utilization management, quality improvement, information technology, and patient access. She has served on the regional and state boards of directors for the Minnesota Health Information Management Association (MNHIMA), has served as a commissioner on the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM), is on the editorial review board of Perspectives in Health Information, and is a peer reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). She is a co-editor of the 6th edition of HIM: Concepts, Principles and Practice.

Dr. Lynette Williamson has been in the field of Health Information Management (HIM) for over thirty years. Currently, she is serving on the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) for AHIMA. For seven years, Dr. Williamson served as a Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation for Health Information and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Dr. Williamson is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawai’i-West O’ahu. Dr. Williamson earned her B.S. in Health Information Management from Florida International University, an MBA with a concentration in Global Management from University of Phoenix, and an Ed.D. in educational leadership with the concentration of Higher Education from Gwynedd Mercy University. Her research interests include student engagement and success especially in the distance education environment. In 2020, Dr. Williamson was selected as a fellow for the American Evaluation Association (AEA), Minority Serving Institution (MSI) program.

Lisa Delhomme is the Program Director of the Health Information Management Program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She has been a RHIA for more than 20 years. Lisa has eight years of experience managing a physician practice and ambulatory surgery center and has been an Instructor at UL Lafayette for the past fifteen years. She is an active volunteer at the national and state level, having just completed a 3-year term with the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Council for Excellence in Education. Lisa is also a former president of the Louisiana Health Information Management Association (LHIMA).

He has over 15 years of experience in the healthcare field which includes being a distinguished adjunct at Davenport. His background includes working in insurance, technology, software management, data analytics, quality improvement, and the urgent care setting. Academically, Joseph has obtained a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications and mass media, a master’s degree in science in administration, and a doctorate in healthcare administration. Most recently, he obtained the Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) AHIMA credential. His healthcare career has allowed him to visit Switzerland’s World Healthcare Organization, United Nations, and Red Cross offices. Kim Theodos is an Associate Professor of Health Studies at the University of Louisiana Monroe. She earned a Bachelor of Health Information Administration from Louisiana Tech University, a Masters of Science in Healthcare Management from the University of New Orleans and a Juris Doctorate from Taft Law School. Kim has over 18 years of experience in higher education and Health Information Management and holds the Registered Health Information Administrator credential. Kim has served at the local, state, and national level in various capacities including serving as a member of the Board of Directors of AHIMA and currently is on the Board of Directors for CAHIIM. She has made significant contributions to the HIM body of knowledge through publications and presentations. Dr. Scott Sittig is an Associate Professor in Health Information Management at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned a PhD in Biomedical Informatics in 2017 from the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Biomedical Informatics in Houston. In addition, he earned a master’s degree in health informatics from Louisiana Tech University and Bachelor of Science degree in health information management from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His research interests are in developing and implementing applied health informatics methods/tools through persuasive technology to advance consumer health informatics, patient engagement and chronic disease management. Dr. Sittig has numerous publications in the area of consumer informatics and has been PI, Co-PI or investigator in over 1 million dollars of grant funding.

Jenny Evans is an Instructor at the University of Findlay in the Masters of Health Informatics program. She has spent the past year and a half studying the needs and assessments of interprofessional education used across multiple healthcare disciplines. Her specific focus has been on how the non-traditional patient care disciplines, such as HIM or other supporting roles, can be included in interprofessional collaboration outside of nursing, pharmacy, and physicians. In addition to this focus, she has worked diligently in promoting the use of health information in a meaningful way that encourages the siloes in healthcare to be torn down and collaboration encouraged across disciplines. Understanding the relationship between healthcare, education, and technology is important in understanding the overall needs to provide the best quality of care to a patient as expected.

Mona is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Health Information Management programs at Coppin State University, a historically black institution. She has been with the program since inception in 2006. She holds a PhD in Psychometrics from Morgan State University, Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Texas Woman’s University, and a Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Coppin State University. She has over 35 years’ experience in the industry. Her areas of expertise are in data analyses, healthcare delivery systems, leadership development, strategic planning, and health information management. Dr. Prerna Dua is a Professor of Health Informatics and Information Management and Program Director for the Masters in Health Informatics at Louisiana Tech University. Her research focuses in areas of Translational Healthcare Informatics, Bioinformatics and Data Mining. She has co-authored/edited 1 book, four book chapters and has over 100 journal, conference publications and abstracts. Her research has been funded by the NIH, DHHS and LA-BOR. She is active in the American Medical Informatics Association and serves on various committees. She was recognized by AMIA and was featured as “Faces of AMIA” and received the AHIMA Triumph award in research in 2015. She primarily teaches graduate level and is the capstone project coordinator for the graduate students and oversees their projects. She teaches Health Information Security, Project Management, Health Information Technology courses in the Department of Health Information Management at Texas State University. Her research focuses on computer security and health interventions is published in Database, Information Systems Frontier, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Journal of Organizational and End User Computing, AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction, Communication of the American Information Systems, Perspectives in HIM, Healthcare, and Behavioral and Information Technology. A mentor and a pioneer in the continually evolving field of health informatics, Josette Jones has focused on preparing students with the skills they’ll need as health information professionals. These competencies include patient-centered care, interdisciplinary teamwork, evidence-based practice, and the ability to use informatics to improve the delivery and quality of care. Recognizing the increasing role that data and electronic health information play in providing safer, better-quality health care, Jones has improved the curricula and set the direction for health informatics education at the School of Informatics and Computing. In 2017, she was appointed to the AMIA Accreditation Committee (AAC) to set the standards for health informatics education. She was also instrumental in getting the Health Informatics graduate program accredited by CAHIIM in 2018. Jones is active in the Health Information Systems Society (HIMSS); Alliance for Nursing Informatics; the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the American Nursing Association (ANA).

Mary “Lisa” Morton, PhD, RHIA, is Professor and Director of the graduate and undergraduate programs in Health Informatics and Information Management at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She received her undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University, her masters from Louisiana State University, and PhD in Information Science & Technology from Drexel University. Dr. Morton has been in the HIM profession for 32 years, including 23 years as an educator. Lisa has served in numerous leadership roles for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Morton has published on the topic of physician EHR adoption and serves as a reviewer for Perspectives in HIM, JAMIA Open and as a conference abstractor reviewer. She has conducted a number of national, state and local presentations at various professional conferences.

Dr. Brian Dixon is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health and currently serves as Director of Public Health Informatics for Regenstrief Institute and IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI. Dr. Brian Dixon’s research focuses on applying informatics methods and tools to improve population and public health. His work leverages clinical and administrative data in electronic health records to measure population health, better understand the determinants of health, examine information flow in the health system, and improve outcomes in individuals and populations. He works to design, implement, and evaluate information infrastructures as well as data quality in support of surveillance and other core functions of public health. Dr. Dixon also teaches informatics courses to future clinical and public health leaders. In 2018, Dr. Dixon was named a Research Frontiers Trailblazer by IUPUI and elected to Fellowship within the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). He was previously recognized as a Forty Under 40 recipient by the Indianapolis Business Journal and as an Outstanding Investigator by the Regenstrief Institute. He is a Fellow of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Dr. Dixon is co- principal investigator for a multi-year T15 grant funded by the US National Library of Medicine to mentor research scientists in public and population health informatics.

Kai Zheng, PhD, FACMI, is Professor in Informatics and Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Irvine and Chief Research Information Officer, UC Irvine Health Affairs. He also directs the Center for Biomedical Informatics at the UC Irvine Institute for Clinical and Translational Science. Zheng’s research draws upon techniques from the fields of information systems and human–computer interaction to study the use of information, communication, and decision technologies in patient care delivery and management. His recent work has focused on topics such as interaction design, workflow and sociotechnical integration, diffusion and evaluation of health IT, and use of computational methods to augment the value of unstructured free-text health data. Zheng received his PhD degree in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University. He was the recipient of the 2011 American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) New Investigator Award that recognizes early informatics contributions and significant scholarly achievements. He was elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (FACMI) in 2018. From 2019 to 2021, he served as Chair of AMIA’s Clinical Information Systems Working Group.

Elaina Osterbur holds a doctorate in Epidemiology, master’s degree in Gerontology and undergraduate degree in Business Administration. After receiving her doctorate, she landed a position at Saint Louis University teaching in the Program in Health Sciences. Along with teaching duties, she mentors’ student professional development to assist students in making applications for graduate schools competitive. She supervises student research and provides opportunities for publication and presentation. Her work has been published and has presented at local, state, national and international professional organizations. She has written several Aging Editions texts. Dr. Osterbur is active in state and local community organizations that assist people with disabilities. She was awarded the Avis E. Meyer Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award, Doisy College Distinguished Teaching Award, Joseph P. Larsen Rehabilitation and Disabilities Studies Award, Louis A. Young Doctoral Fellowship and University of Illinois Foundation Scholarship. She is an associate professor at Saint Louis University.

Philip de Melo holds a Ph.D. in mathematics and computer science. He was a faculty member at Columbia University and Georgia Tech as well as a UNESCO professor. He also worked for a number of years in the US government research labs. His research interests include: advanced methods in applied mathematics, optimization theory, signal data processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, business intelligence, automated decision management, and data warehousing. Dr. de Melo authored and co-authored over 80 papers published in peer reviewed journals, 4 books, and 2 patents. He served as a PI for research projects funded by ONR, AFOSR, NSF, USDA, and industrial consortia. Currently, he is working on the development of intelligent agents with the decision-making capacities to process big data for business and medical applications.

She has over 30 years of experience in Health Informatics and Information Management. Teresa is committed to finding new ways to educate students for the future of health information management and helping them find their niche in the health informatics and information management profession. She was awarded the 2013 and 2020 Outstanding Health Information Management Educator by the Missouri Health Information Management Association. In 2020 she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award sponsored by Emerson.
