Saturday, 23 April 2016 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM PST

Oakland Community Birth Center, 2800 Park Blvd., Oakland, California, 94610, United States.

This class is designed exclusively for Solo Parents!  We will explore what resources can be most helpful, local options and how to line up support ahead of time, and insights gleaned from those that have gone before you.

Join us for an informative and experiential introduction to the joys, challenges and techniques involved in the amazing world of breastfeeding. While breastfeeding is an instinctive and natural way for mothers to feed their babies, it almost always comes with a steep learning curve that requires patience and support to navigate. Accelerate that curve by learning beforehand what to expect, how to prepare, and what each member of the family can do to facilitate the breastfeeding relationship.

In this thorough 2 hour Breastfeeding Class, participants will learn:

Health benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby
Basic anatomy and physiology of the lactating breast
Correct positioning and latch
How to support the nursing mom
Tips on initiating breastfeeding in the first few days after birth
How to read baby's cues, knowing when to nurse and when they're done
Common challenges and how to avoid or address them
Breast-pumps and bottle feeding

{Register for both this class and Newborn Care on the same day, and receive 10% off both.}
