This beer off-flavor training will allow participants to identify the common off-flavors found in beer. Seven different off-flavor compounds will be tasted and discussed in this two-hour workshop. Registrants will be provided with spiked samples of Acetaldehyde, D.M.S., Diacetyl, Isoamyl Acetate, Papery, Line Infection, and Lightstruck. Instruction will be given to aid the development of off-flavor and common sensory vocabulary. Students will learn the origins of each flavor compound and why they are not always “off.” Participants will become familiar with the attributes of a potentially off-tasting beer. This sensory training class is designed for those who work in a brewery, home brewers, and craft beer enthusiasts. Upon completion of the course, students will congregate at Innovation Brew Works to enjoy a glass of their choice of house beer. Join us and learn how to evaluate your beer like a professional!
This class is lead by Gavin Harper, Master Cicerone®, BJCP Certified Judge, and Brewmaster.
Participants must be a minimum of 21 years old with valid photo ID.
