Virginia State Police Training Academy, 7700, Richmond, VA, 23235, United States.

This course will train law enforcement officers to observe, identify, and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both in order to reduce the number of fatal crashes, serious injury, and driving incidents.

This two-day (16-hour course) is intended to bridge the gap between Basic Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

ARIDE will review and require student demonstration of the SFST proficiency.  ARIDE also stresses the importance of securing the most appropriate biological sample in an attempt to identify substances likely causing impairment.

Attire is agency uniform (BDU approved), all Troopers will wear the issued BDU.  *No jeans, untucked shirts, or hats in the building.
