TRAINING IN TECHNICAL TREE CLIMBING - MOVING ROPE SYSTEMS and STATIONARY ROPE SYSTEMS 
Two (2)-Day Module 

This course will provide participants with training in the use of specialized equipment and techniques employed in Moving Rope Systems (MRS) and Stationary Rope Systems (SRS).  Safe work procedures for popular technical work at height systems are demonstrated and practiced.  Attendees will gain an understanding of the advantages and limitations of MRS and SRS while maintaining and following safe work practices and legislation pertaining to fall protection.  Participants will be educated in applicable forces on anchor points, redirects and tie off methods for tree climbing systems completes this very informative course. 

This course meets the ANSI/ASSE Z490.1 Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training as well as ANSI Z133, Z359, and CSA Z259. 

Safety & Risk Assessment
• Integrated site risk assessment, inner and outer perimeter surveys, green, amber, red light indicators 
• Pull testing, establishing work zones and stop zones and communication protocols 
• Establishing an emergency action plan and stop work protocol

Personal Protective Apparel & Equipment 
• How to inspect, fit and utilize PPA and PPE 
• Fall protection categories (arrest, positioning, restrict/restraint, rescue) 
• Industrial sit harnesses, connecting links, cordage and webbing
• Tree Work Positioning Assemblies

Ropes, Lanyards, Tails, Slings, Splices and Stitches 
• Rope construction, standards, application, inspection, storage and care 
• Rope terminology, tree climbing termination knots, splices and stiches 
• Tree climbing knots, bends and hitches

Identifying, Establishing, & Securing Anchorages 
• Fall protection plan, code and standards, certified and non-certified anchorages 
• Canopy and basal anchors, load testing and friction management 
• Tree Climbing Tools and Equipment

Throwline Application, Techniques and Rope Installation 
• Installation and retrieval of friction management devices 
• Ascenders, descenders, other mechanical devices 
• Rope tools, slings and related accessories

Tree Climbing Work Practices
• Moving Rope Systems (MRS), Stationary Rope Systems (SRS) and their performance criteria
• Ergonomics, hydration/nutrition and the industrial athlete 
• Ascending, positioning. redirecting and descending 
• MRS / SRS hybrid tree climbing systems

Emergency Response 
• Aerial rescue planning, traumatic tree worker injuries and first aid 
• Self-rescue and ground assisted lowering techniques

 

PPE REQUIREMENTS:
-Head Protection (ANSI Z89.1)
-Eye Protection (ANSI Z87.1)
-Hi Viz Apparel (ANSI / ISEA 107)
-Hand Protection (Gloves Applicable for the task)
-Chainsaw Leg Protection (ASTM F1897: Look for the UL Label)
-Foot Protection (a sturdy work boot that supports to the ankle or above, or ASTM F2412 & F2413 protective footwear)

Upon completion of course, all attendees will receive certificates of completion for proof of training
