About the Event

Alberta Vocal Festival is the province's newest festival for vocal ensembles! The festival has been developed for groups focusing on the performance of music outside the traditional choral repertoire including (but not limited to) jazz ensembles, barbershop choruses, a cappella groups, show choirs, and world music ensembles. The festival is non-competitive, but a series of awards based on a range of criteria will be presented.

FESTIVAL MODEL

Alberta Vocal Festival is an all-day experience that includes a variety of workshop and performance experiences. Here's what you can expect:

  • An hour long clinic tailored to your group with one of our awesome clinicians
  • Additional workshops such as 'Build Your Own Arrangement', 'Working Beyond the Notes — Performance Tips and Tricks', 'Improvisation for Every Ensemble', and more!
  • A lunchtime concert featuring special guests and performances from the 'Build Your Own Arrangement' workshop
  • Large group singing experiences including a group warm up; other offerings may include 'The Art of Barbershop Singing' and 'Circle Singing'
  • Evening Spotlight Concerts where each group will perform two pieces and a large group piece learned in the afternoon workshop
  • Facilitator feature — singers and audiences will be inspired by performances by our awesome facilitators

CHOIR ALBERTA is the provincial hub for choral music and offers a diverse roster of unique programs and resources for choirs, conductors, singers, music educators, and other choral practitioners. WESTERN HOSPITALITY SINGERS is a chorus of men that sings a cappella four part harmony in the barbershop style. Launched in 1986, this group sings a varied repertoire and tours regularly throughout western Canada and the US. CALGARY ASSOCIATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MUSIC EDUCATION (CADME) has been changing lives through music since 2003. A not-for-profit organization created to enhance the existing musical education programs in public schools, CADME works to inspire students and teachers through workshops, concerts, and masterclasses, and acts as an accessible community resource for music education.
