Adventure Sailing

This is a one-day sailing adventure on a 22 foot sailboat. Students will begin on shore checking weather forecasts, charting a course, and filing a float plan. The group moves to the dock where students will learn parts of a larger sailboat and what their responsibilities will be while on board. With a course charted by the students, the boat and crew will depart for several hours of sailing. Topics covered during the day include raising sails while underway, steering, sail trim, watch captains, anchoring, and sail furling. The four-hour class will include enjoying their own picnic lunch on the boat and swimming while at anchor. On the return sail, the sailors will learn strategies for approaching a dock and making the boat ship-shape and "All-a-taut-o". The students will provide a quick debrief about their trip before dismissal.   All students need a PFD and a lunch. Two sessions are offered.  Sign up for one or both for completely new adventures!

Ages 10 to 17

Maximum 6 students

Cancellation policy

$50 participant cancellation fee applies only if the space cannot be filled by another student by start of session.

Otsego Sailing Club

treasurer@otsegosailingclub.com

The Otsego Sailing Club, Inc., is a non-profit organization of sailboat owners who have mutual interests in sailing and sailboat racing. It was founded to encourage recreation and competitive sailing, to promote safety in sailing and all associated activities, and to promote good sportsmanship. The club traces its roots to the summer of 1961 when five families sailed together on Otsego Lake. That fall they organized the Otsego Sailing Club. By-laws were written and race and social programs organized. The support that the club received from Harry Cook was one of the key factors that assured its future. For several years he permitted the club to rent part of his land. He then sold to the club the property it now owns. We have prospered over the years because of the good will and cooperative spirit of our members. Membership includes obligations and responsibilities in order to ensure the continuance of the club.
