Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.

Adult Mental Health First Aid covers:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect a person with help
  • New: how to administer Naloxone in the event of an opioid overdose

Note for FCPS employees: Adult Mental Health First Aid is NOT the course that will allow you to receive a purple lanyard. That course is Youth Mental Health First Aid. To register for a Youth Mental Health First Aid course, email Brittany Dwyer at bdwyer@mhafc1.org.
