A Comprehensive Approach to Time-Keeping and Rhythm 1

This 6-week program is appropriate for instrumentalists (concert and jazz) and choristers at all levels. We will approach time-keeping from a physical perspective while simultaneously approaching rhythmic precision on a multi-level basis structured to accommodate your level of experience and comfort with the approach. Materials will be provided.

This will be a “hands on”, active experience intended to provide you with the process to continue to develop musically in order to eliminate the “guessimissimos” and “approximaturas” from your performance skills. Topics covered will include understanding a variety of time signatures, relative note values, physical time keeping, subdivision, vocalization of rhythmic concepts, performing rhythms effectively on instruments.

The format will be “Masterclass” based. Participants will be encouraged to demonstrate individually so that positive reinforcement can be offered to each individual to enhance their own understanding and performance, regardless of level of experience. The pace and full scope of topics will be based on the mastery of concepts by participants.
