Full course descriptions

Vicarious Trauma:  Another Form of Burnout and Compassion Fatigue.

Vicarious trauma (or secondary traumatic stress) is an ongoing process of change over time that results from witnessing or hearing about other people’s suffering and need. When social workers identify with the pain of people who have endured terrible things, they can bring their grief, fear, anger, and despair into their own awareness and experience. Vicarious trauma, like experiencing trauma directly, can deeply impact the way social workers see the world and can put them at risk for burnout and compassion fatigue.

This webinar will be help you:

1.      Identify the difference between trauma and vicarious trauma

2.      Identify warning signs of vicarious trauma

3.      Identify tools and techniques for caring for yourself and your staff/colleagues before, during and after burnout and/or compassion fatigue.

The Future of Health Care and Adaptive Technologies

The future of healthcare is shaping up in front of our very eyes with advances in digital healthcare technologies, such as artificial intelligence, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, 3D-printing, robotics and nanotechnology. Health Care Social Workers need to familiarize with emerging healthcare technologies to stay relevant in the coming years.

During this session, Bryan Adler, Esq., CELA will showcase and discuss some of the latest technologies available that may help your clients, including Virtual Reality, the “True Loo”, and ElliQ,- a sidekick for happier living.

A Call to Action- Social Work Leadership in Interdisciplinary Health Care

Social workers’ professional responsibility to screen for social determinants of health has proven essential for improving patients’ health and the delivery of health services. Conducting thorough assessments exploring vulnerable social conditions is key to improving one’s health. Through promoting preventative whole-person care, social workers are emerging leaders in Interdisciplinary health care, who can assess and treat social care, a key component in optimizing health.

 Learning Objectives:

Investigate biopsychosocial assessments strategies inclusive for social determinants of health and the psycho-social etiology of chronic illnesses.

Explore Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral interventional approaches for medical social work practitioners.

Review the benefits of interprofessional collaboration in creating prevention and wellness psychoeducational forums for patients, family, and communities' groups alike.
