The purpose of the Annual Meeting and Educational Conference is to present workshops, educational sessions, and conduct business of the Region. Such business includes however, not limited to election of officers and receiving reports of officers and committees toward “Service for Humanity” over the previous year.

The Southwest Region is a geographical boundary consisting of Chapters of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated is a professional organization for registered professional nurses and student nurses (male and female) representing many cultures and diverse ethnic backgrounds. More than 8000 Registered Nurses and Student Nurses hold membership in Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated. Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated is an internationally recognized leader in the provision of health education, leadership development, and service to the community. The mission of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated is to provide service for humanity, elevate the plane of nursing and to increase interest in the nursing profession.
Dr. Vick began her nursing education while still in high school by way of dual enrollment at Chicago Vocational High School and the Chicago Public School Practical Nursing Program. In 1994, she successfully completed high school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Embracing the role of lifelong learner, Dr. Vick furthered her nursing education – earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chicago State University and Master of Science in Nursing from Rush University majoring in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Critical Care Nurse Specialist programs. Her final degree, a Doctorate in Nursing Practice, was completed at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Throughout her nursing career, Dr. Vick has delivered several presentations and authored numerous publications including the article, “Implementation of an inpatient smoking cessation program in a Veterans Affairs facility,” printed in the Journal of Clinical Nursing. Most recently, she served on the American Nurses Association (ANA) Connected Health/Telehealth professional issues panel resulting in the updated ANA position statement, “ANA Core Principles on Connected Health.” She is currently the Chief of Telehealth Services at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System and proud charter member of the Eta Eta Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated. Dr. Vick is currently the Vice President of this chapter. Dr. Vick holds many professional roles and achieved countless accomplishments. However, her most important roles are that of wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Her family and close friends have been a tremendous source of love and encouragement that has carried her this far. Dr. Vick has been married for over 17 years to her high school sweetheart, Robert. They have one teenage son who is an avid football player, wrestler, and power lifter. Watching Robert, Jr. grow up has been the highlight of her life and the most rewarding experience EVER!
Joanne "Jo" Schmidt is a Family Nurse Practitioner in New York City, working with underserved patient populations at a federally qualified health center. She primarily practices out of mobile van units serving patients who are homeless or have limited access to care. In 2002, Ms. Schmidt received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY College at Brockport where she was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. In 2014, she received her Master of Science in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at New York University. There she received multiple scholarships and recognitions, including induction into The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. Ms. Schmidt is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree at Yale University focusing her studies on workplace violence prevention in healthcare, targeting the homecare setting. She was recently awarded the Gruber Foundation Fellowship for her work at Yale. Ms. Schmidt is passionate about violence awareness and prevention within both the healthcare and public sectors.
Priscilla Murphy, a board-certified counselor is Founder & CEO of Nylex Educational & Counseling Services Inc. A Human Resource trainer & facilitator for the 3M Company & provides training for Health Advocate companies. A motivational speaker conducting seminars in schools, businesses etc. Dynamic in presentations & each seminar developed personally for group participants & organizations. Ms. Murphy started her career as a Registered Nurse. She has distinguished herself as a dedicated provider. Ms. Murphy practiced nursing for 31 years before following her heart & moved into counseling in 1999. She works tirelessly to make her clients understand they have a voice & their life can change. A strong advocate for individuals in the field of mental health. She graduated from Wilmington University w/ a dual Master’s Degree in Community Counseling & Education. Received Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Widener University & Diploma in Nursing from Bryn Mawr School of Nursing. Ms. Murphy has given numerous presentations & workshops on various topics related to Women’s health issues, depression in men, leadership training, gambling, & motivational public speaking. She facilitates a women’s gambling support group for the Delaware Council on Gambling Problems. She joined Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated in 2002. Ms. Murphy has held several positions in the organization. President of Tau Eta Chapter of Wilmington, DE from 2003-2007, Assistant Northeast Regional Director from 2006-2010, the National Secretary from 2009-2013, 1st Vice President, from 2013-2017 currently National President of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporate. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, American Nurses Association, National Negro Council of Women, Delaware Professional Counseling Association, Past Executive Director for Delaware Professional Counseling Association, & Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She initiated the establishment of the Chi Sigma Ioto Honor Society for counselors at Wilmington University & is a member of the Delta Chi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota International Honor Society for Counselors. She served a five-year term as grant reviewer for the National Advisory Center for Health care Strategies Inc. for Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where she worked to improve care for children with asthma.
