APALI's Candidate and Campaign Mini-Bootcamp is a five-hour training to teach and provide a practical lab space for the CLP cohort, APALI Alumni and APALI Public Official Fellows interested in running a better campaign or being a better candidate for public office.

LEADERS: Dennis Chiu '12, alumni from APALI's Civic Leadership Program,is a veteran campaign consultant who will lead our intensive training on both skillbuilding and technical education.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive, nonpartisan training to current and aspiring candidates, campaign personnel, and community leaders. Learn the skills needed to become viable players in the political life and your community.

The training helps participants identify and solve the unique challenges when running for office, managing a campaign, or working in the various campaign positions. Case studies include historical game changing campaigns as well as current political campaigns happening this cycle. This training includes:

  • Creating Campaign Messaging;

  • Interpreting Political Voter Data;

  • Understanding the Basics of Campaign Fundraising;

  • The Roles within a Campaign;

  • Selecting a Consultant;

  • Creating a Campaign Budget, Walk Script, Phone Script, a Basic Campaign Handout (Walk Piece); and

  • Presenting learned skills during a campaign simulation.

Graduates of the training will take away a tool kit that is the backbone of a future campaign for public office or knowledge to work as an effective role in a campaign.
