The Arc of NCV – Lunchtime Summer Speaker Series 

Thursdays from 12 -1pm -- Juy 20 and 27th on ZOOM

 

ZOOM LINK for access to ENTIRE SERIES will be emailed after registration.

 

This Summer Speaker Series includes topics relevant to supporting people with DD.  Presentations will conclude with a Q&A, so bring your questions!  After events, registrants will receive an email with a link to recordings and presentation materials. 

 

Starting the School Year Off Right 

Thursday, July 20th – 12 to 1:00pm on Zoom 

Presenter: Dr. Jennifer Walker, Associate Professor of Special Education and Program Director, University of Mary Washington 

During this workshop, Dr. Jennifer Walker will share tips for parents to start the school year off right. Topics will include: how, when, and what to email teachers about your child and times to follow up, setting the stage for partnership, teaching children to advocate, and how to stay organized throughout the year. Dr. Jen's presentation will conclude with a Q&A, so please come with questions! 

 

Social Security Benefits in Future Planning 

Thursday, July 27th – 12 to 1:00pm on Zoom 

Presenter: Cortney Heykoop, Owner, Clover Leaf Wealth Strategies 

Planning for your retirement and the financial future of your child are interwoven in many ways. During this workshop, Cortney Heykoop will provide an overview of Social Security Basics, Supplemental Social Security (SSI), Social Security Disability, and the Adult Disabled Child Benefit (SSDI). The impact of divorce and parental retirement on benefits will also be discussed. Cortney's presentation will conclude with a Q&A, so please come with questions!
