M&A affects companies, employees, and communities, so doing M&A well makes a difference. The HR M&A Roundtable is a peer-learning forum for M&A professionals with experience managing people, culture, and leadership issues in Mergers & Acquisitions. Founded in 2017, it was created to provide a solicitation-free environment where members share their own experiences, including lessons learned and best practices. This forum is for M&A practitioners to develop both personally and professionally, making a difference for everybody involved in and affected by transactions. We provide free year-round programming, including roundtables, webinars, and happy hours; and have been conducting virtual programs for years! We also support graduate-level interns and promote professional M&A research, all with the goal of elevating our professional practice.

The business case for retaining “A” players and engaging other employees during your next acquisition is clear, given today’s staffing challenges. Applying “best practices” is often advocated as the solution, but adoption without adaption creates "cut and paste" methodology risks. Understanding, aligning, and adapting "leading practices" to your communication, culture, change, and capability development initiatives will lower or avoid these risks. In this session, we will explore critical retention principles, spending most of our time focused on practical, proven, and powerful leading practices and applications to improve employee retention and integration success.

One of the most common complaints of HR M&A professionals is HR matters taking a back seat to deal financials and operational issues, rather than giving them equal footing. HR practitioners intuitively understand that how we manage people, leadership, and culture will either create or destroy deal value, but often struggle to communicate how deal value is affected and why leaders should pay attention to these issues early in the deal.
During this session, Rosylin Johnson (Senior Director of Total Rewards Strategy and Governance) and Sridhar Koneru (Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions, Investments) will share how Corporate Development and HR can effectively partner to address the people issues that make or break deals.
