Animal Rescue League of Boston/ Dedham Branch, 55 Anna's Place, Dedham , Massachusetts, 02026, United States.

Regardless of previous training, all Animal Control Officers (ACOs) employed by a municipality in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts must complete training in compliance with Section 51 of Chapter 193 of the Acts of 2012. All ACOs must complete the Core Competencies Training (16 credits).

 

This is a two day session.  ACOs must attend both session days to complete the course. 9 AM - 5PM

 

Core Competencies Training – Agenda

 

DAY 1 - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1 hour break for lunch, BYO or visit nearby restaurants) 

  • Massachusetts state laws
  • Wildlife

DAY 2 - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1 hour break for lunch, BYO or visit nearby restaurants) 

  • Companion animal identification, behavior, and safe handling  
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Record-keeping and report writing
  • Communication and public relations

 

There will be a multiple choice quiz given at the end of Day 1 and a written exam to test practical report-writing skills at the end of Day 2. All tests are open-resource, with options to complete at home and return by email.
