The Virginia Department of Veteran Services, the Virginia Employment Commission, and the Virginia Statewide Partners presents the 2020 Virginia Women Veterans Summit. This event brings together executives, community leaders, employers, and government agencies from the federal, state, and local levels to raise awareness about the services and benefits offered specifically for women veterans.
Annie Walker is an 18-year employee of the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is the Deputy Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS). She also co-authored an article with partners from the VCU Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) for Transition Innovations, the article was published in The Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation, “Perceptions of GI Bill Recipients with Disabilities of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) as a Viable Career Choice”. Mrs. Walker also volunteers as a speaker with the Virginia War Memorial Teacher’s Institute.
Ms. Beverly served as an officer for 14 years in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps (MSC) after graduation from Howard University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). While on active duty, she served in a variety of assignments as a Healthcare Administrative MSC Officer including overseas in Germany, Company Command in Texas and two deployments to Iraq. Her last military assignment was as Patient Administration Chief at Fort Lee, Virginia. Ms. VanTull has adopted as her life mission to advocate for veterans like herself after her active service ended in 2014. She has lent her passion and expertise to numerous individuals, Veterans Service Organizations, and non-profits throughout Virginia in establishing programs to assist veterans, women and their families. She is a lifetime member of Women Veterans Interactive (WVI), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Military Officers of America Association (MOAA). She is also a member of the National Association of Professional Women. Ms. VanTull has served in the Virginia Department of Veterans Services as Program Manager since 2016. Beverly assumed the new position of Women Veterans Program Manager in fall 2018 to provide full time support to Virginia’s women veterans and their unique and diverse needs at the state level.
Anna is the Director of Healing Sounds, LLC and board certified music therapist, licensed music educator, certified rehabilitation counselor, and a licensed profession counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a 2004 graduate of East Carolina University with degrees in Music Therapy and Music Education. Upon graduation, Anna completed her internship and contracted services though Musicworx of California in San Diego, California, where she served in diverse settings ranging from hospitals and cancer survival groups to public schools and private homes. Anna has extensive experience working as a music therapist, including providing therapy services and crisis stabilization to detained teenagers in the Richmond area. Through her work in state-operated programs within Virginia’s department of education, she has co-authored standards and a curriculum for art and music therapists in education programs as part of the regular school day. She coordinates and leads training regarding social and emotional learning, and speaks at regional and national conferences about her experiences in therapy. Additionally, Anna teaches at VCU, her graduate school alma mater, as an adjunct professor instructing music therapy coursework. She enjoys employing mindfulness based practices and helping others reach their best potential.
