Join us for a discussion around the challenges of reentry, such as housing and employment access in addition to stigma and collateral consequences of having a criminal record. Topics to be discussed include:

·         How difficult it is to clear a criminal record (i.e. expungement) and how society shuts out returning citizens from being able to participate in their community

·         Inefficiency of reentry programs when many formerly incarcerated individuals continue to be unable to secure employment after release, and the ultimate taxpayer waste that comes from these practices

·         The importance of incorporating mental health and skills trainings inside jails and prisons to properly equip individuals for life upon release

Speakers:

Dameon Stackhouse - MSW Student from Rutgers University

Ronald Pierce - Democracy and Justice Fellow, NJ Institute for Social Justice

Assata Thomas - Director of the Institute for Community Justice, a Program of Philadelphia Fight

Hosted in partnership with the Rutgers University School of Social Work
