WHAT:  2018-19 Homeschool Boat Build

WHEN:  Wednesdays from September 26, 2018 - June 5, 2019

TIME:  10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m.

PARENTS:

As with last year, this homeschool year, we are again going BIG on experiential learning opportunities.  Homeschool high schoolers are again invited to participate in a once a week, year-long BOAT BUILD where the students will work as a team to build a wooden boat.  This class is completely hands-on and will introduce and/or enhance key concepts in engineering, chemistry, construction, design, technology, mathematics, materials management and physics - to name some.  They will be introduced to CAD and design with 3-D print.  In addition, the students will be introduced to a boat motor - learning some of its mechanics as well as the motor housing and steering.

This class meets every Wednesday - beginning September 26, 2018 and ending around June 5, 2019 - from 10.00 a.m. until noon.   (There will be no class on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the Wednesday during the winter holiday and the Wednesday associated with spring break.)  The students will learn to read plans, utilize math skills, and work with wood working equipment and tools in building a boat from design to end product.  The class culminates in June with a boat launch at Penn's Landing where family and friends are invited to take part.
