Threat Assessment & Management in an Educational Setting

Educational professionals, law enforcement officers, and mental health professionals are increasingly involved in the assessment and management of persons who engage in threatening and volatile behaviors. Such persons can include current and former students, teachers, administrators, or staff; as well as other persons not affiliated with the school.  These individuals can be highly disruptive both in educational/workplace settings and in the community at large.  Their behaviors may range from tactics of bullying and intimidation, to stalking and harassment, to acts of violence that devastate a school, workplace, family, or community.  Incidents from around the world have underscored the ongoing need for collaborative and integrated strategies to prevent violence where possible, and to mitigate risk of harm where necessary.  This workshop will help participants to better understand dynamics of targeted violence; develop and enhance strategies for early identification, assessment, and intervention with concerning situations; and will provide opportunities to practice application of the principles learned.

This training workshop is appropriate for persons who may serve on school-based, behavioral threat assessment teams including (but not limited to): school administrators, human resource personnel, school mental health professionals (e.g., school psychologists, counselors, social workers, case managers, etc.), other student services professionals (e.g., disability services, special education, conduct/discipline, guidance, etc.), school resource officers, and other local or state law enforcement personnel that may support school threat assessment teams.

NOTE: Attendance is REQUIRED for both days of the course.
