At 8,611 meters, K2 is the second highest peak in the world. Remote and steep, it does not see many ascents. Mountaineer George Bell said it is a “savage mountain that tries to kill you.” Later, Messner called it the “Mountain of Mountains." Regardless of your perspective on its difficulty, it is one of the most striking peaks on earth.
Jim Whittaker led the 1978 expedition that put the first Americans—Louis Reichardt, Rick Ridgeway, John Roskelley, and Jim Wickwire— on the summit. Join us in celebrating the astounding accomplishment of these climbers and alpinists who have followed in their footsteps.
The 2018 Annual Benefit Dinner features a keynote from Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, the first woman to climb all 14 8,000-meter peaks—including K2—without supplemental oxygen or high altitude porters.
Tickets are limited and will sell out quickly. Please reserve yours today.
