The Wisdom Series Part III: What archetypes are you living?

An archetype is a pattern of behavior in all people. The Greeks called them "forms" and stated they dropped into your life at various times. Carl G. Jung, the Swiss psychologist, used them to search for meaning in his life and the lives of his clients. Archetypes are held in our unconscious- the deposit of all human experience back to its remotest beginnings. It is living system of reactions and aptitudes that determine the individual's life in invisible ways. Archetypes are simply the forms which our instincts assume. A quiz may be given during the workshop to help one understand this Jungian concept and which will aid in practical use of this concept in therapy and in life.

Learning Objective: Participants will be able to:

  1. Better formulate the Jungian concept of archetypes.
  2. Be able to measure what archetypes, positive or negative characteristics, have been active in your or your client's life in the past.
  3. Be able to compare what archetypes, positive or negative characteristics , are active in your life, or client's at the present time.
  4. Be able to compare what archetypes, positive or negative characteristics, are present in your peers in your work environment.
  5. Hypothesize and share ideas with the presenter and other attendees on how to best work with these positive and negative characteristics in your personal and professional live.

Presenter: Rev. Karen E. Herrick, PhD, LCSW is a social worker and author of this series.
