This webinar will provide a brief overview of the historical interactions veterans have had in the community coupled with a modern perspective from a veteran. New engagement tactics will be discussed to increase veterans’ self-efficacy in the community. The basics of strengths-based case management with veterans will be highlighted, using motivational interviewing in the assessment process, and developing short-term case plans to maximize a veteran’s ability to meet their baseline needs.

Chauncey is currently providing mental health case management services to patients in a correctional setting and consults with a multi-disciplinary team in providing comprehensive mental health care, including: intake and assessments, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and providing individual and group therapy. He has 18 years experience in social services working with the homeless, veterans, and immigrant communities. He also has experience working in both MO and KS in the foster care system as well as experience in school social work in MO.
Dr. Cox, Professor of Social Work received her Ph.D. in Social Work and Social Policy and a graduate Certificate in Aging Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Social Work and School of Allied Health. Her research interests include the intersection of health issues with gerontology, spirituality, and family.
