The 11th Annual Zonta Walks for Women Breast Cancer Awareness Walk & 5K Run will be held on Saturday, October 7th, at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the walk/run will travel along the banks of the Thunder Bay River.

This inspiring event unites the entire community to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate women about the importance of early detection's, and to raise funds.  This year the net proceeds from our event will be directed to the Friends Together Tees and Tops Program, local wig support programs and Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena local mammography subsidy fund.

 

Schedule of Events

Friday, October 6 - Bras's Across the Bridge! - Pedestrian Bridge between NOAA & Rotary Island 

5:30 pm - 7:30 pm 

Decorate a bra and drop it off at Friends Together 105 Prentiss St. Alpena between 12pm and 4pm Oct 6. Bras will be displayed across the bridge for community members to vote by donation for their favorite bra. The winner of the most creative, wild and colorful bra will win a BOOBIE prize. Join us for this fun event!

Saturday, October 7 – Race/Walk Day - Thunder Bay Sanctuary

8:30 am - 9:45 am On-site Registration

9:30 am 5K Run Begins

10:00 am 5K Walk Begins

11:00 am Awards, Food & Refreshments

 

Pre-registration

Walkers/runners are encouraged to pre-register by September 15 to be guaranteed a t-shirt, which can be picked up Monday, October 2 - Thursday, October 5 between 8 am and 4 pm at Thunder Bay Accounting, 1400 US 23 South, Alpena OR during the Bras Across the Bridge Event Friday, October 6 between 5:30pm - 7:30pm the evening before the walk/run.

Online registration deadline is October 3. After October 3, register on-site day of the walk.

 

Participants

Everyone is welcome; women, men, children and dogs. Dogs must be on a least at all times!

Teaming Up

Families, businesses, churches and service clubs are encouraged to build teams. Just enter your team name when registering.

Entry Fee

Cost is $20 per person. Children 14 and under are free but will not receive a t-shirt.

Payments can be made by registering online using debit/credit cards or by registering online and mailing a check to Zonta Club of Alpena, PO Box 185 Alpena, MI 49707.

Donations

To qualify for prize incentives donations must be received on or before the day of the walk.

Prize Incentives

* Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 individuals raising the most donations.

* Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams raising the most donations.

* To donate simply provide your donation during online registration or mail your donation to Zonta Club of Alpena PO Box 185, Alpena MI 49707 (please include your name or team name on the check).

Race Age Categories

15 - 19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60+

Medals will be awarded to male and female runners in the top 3 places in each age group.

Overall winner (1 male, 1 female)

All sales are final. No refunds will be issued.
