  1. Learn to tell the difference between a Travers and a Renvers. These are two old terms still used today in select parts of the world. Travers is more commonly known as Haunches-In

in the modern world, and Renvers is Haunches-Out. Why is this important to you? Knowing and understanding these terms is key, because they are a large part of what you’ll be working on in this clinic session.

In this session, you will learn to tell the difference between Shoulder-In and Haunches-In, when to execute Shoulder-In or Haunches-In, and how to correctly bend and angle your horse to execute Haunches-In and Haunches-Out. These are techniques that demonstrate the refinement and beauty of Western Dressage at its finest.

Ground Work:

  •  Recap Shoulder-In and Leg Yield

  • In-Hand Work: Forward to Halt, Shoulder-In, Leg Yield

  • In-Hand Work: Haunches-In, Half-Pass.

  •  Simulations: work on moving each hip independent of the other

    Riding:

  • Learn how to set your horse up for a Haunches-In out of a circle and in the last stride

    of the circle

  • Haunches-In to straight ahead, then to a Haunches-Out

  • Haunches-In at a Walk-to-Canter transition, then straight ahead

  • Half-Pass out of a circle

  • Straight ahead on the diagonal into a Half-Pass

  • Leg Yield into a Half-Pass
