This session will focus on the value of grant writing knowledge in the world of social work. Attendees will learn about the various avenues down which social workers may travel if interested in grant writing. The talk will center Claire’s personal experiences in the field within the grant writing worlds of local government and board of education grant writing, as well as grant writing for housing authorities and community organizing efforts. The principles of grant writing will be discussed as well as how social workers can become involved in grant securing efforts within their own organizations or independently.

Claire Crimando (CSW) holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a minor in Political Science from Rutgers University-Newark, and is currently pursuing her MSW with a Global Community Practice focus at Monmouth University. Claire serves as a Director for Bruno Associates, Inc., one of the most prolific and long-standing grant writing firms in the Garden State. In the past two and a half years, she has helped clients which range from boards of education, housing authorities, first responders and local governments secure over $15 million in grant funds. Claire has experience working in geriatrics and social services and also volunteers over 50 hours a week as a CSVA supervisor for SAVE of Essex County, where she previously served as Essex County’s Sexual Violence Crisis Intervention and Prevention Specialist. Claire believes that through grant writing, the financial and career goals of social workers can be realized, as social workers can secure funding to create meaningful change through programs and projects.
