This workshop will discuss the connection between high conflict divorce and trauma in children.  The workshop will review factors that contribute to high conflict (including substance use, domestic violence, personality disorders and mental health,) discuss assessment children’s needs during and after divorce and understand the applications of polyvagal theory when working with these children.  This workshop is based on the premise of a child centered system, and strengthening coping and resilience.

 

1.       Participants will identify three contributors that escalate divorce into high conflict.

2.       Participants will be able recognize the application of polyvagal theory and the child’s response to divorce.

 

3.       Participants will learn to assess the impacts of traumatic experiences from high conflict divorce.

have been practicing Social Work for 27 years. I have specialized in victim assistance services and diversity. I graduated law school in 2001 and have specialized in family law, and specifically mediation and collaborative law. I also specialize in professional responsibility for mental health professional. I currently chair the NASW Ethics committee. I have been an educator for 24 years and have provided educational programs for groups such as Social Work professional, lawyers, Judges, Licensed Marriage and Family therapists, Human Resource Professionals, police officers, etc. I have previously taught at Rutgers New Brunswick, Rutgers Camden and Essex County College. I continue to teach at Rutgers Continuing Education and the Victim Assistance Academy. I also teach for the collaborative partnership of New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women, DYFS and Montclair State University.
