If you are an area flute student preparing for your upcoming auditions, you are welcome to join us on the campus of UMHB for a day or masterclasses and audition preparation.

This festival is open to all school classifications, both TMEA and ATSSB.

The workshop will take place in UMHB's newly opened Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center.

Registration begins at 7:30am with the workshop beginning at 8:00am. The festival will conclude at 5:00pm. Lunch is on your own.
Guest Artist: Ms. Sharon Davis
Inspired by hearing James Galway playing dueling banjos with Roy Clarke in the early 70's, Sharon Davis first picked up the flute in fourth grade. The school principal only allowed her to enter a year early because he was so tired of her asking and pleading to be allowed to join band. Ever since, she has been loving and playing the flute for nearly 41 years. For the past 15 years, she has been teaching flute as Professor of Music at Austin Community College. She is currently the principal flutist with the Austin Civic Orchestra and has been since 1998. She a founding member of ACC's Faculty Woodwind Quintet. Additionally, she plays with a professional guitarist in the Davis Duo and with the harpist, Lisa Lamb as the Glyss Wynde Duo.
As a professor at Austin Community College, Prof. Davis has worked in the Student Success Initiative Project for two years, served as a member of the Faculty Center’s Advisory Group for three years and is working on getting new instrumental ensembles up and running for the Music Department.
Professor Davis has performed as a featured soloist with the Oklahoma Symphony, University of Oklahoma Symphony, Austin Civic Orchestra and with the Austin Community College Choir.
Professor Davis received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Oklahoma and her Master of Music Performance in Flute from Baylor University.
At the University of Oklahoma, Sharon studied with Christine Smith and Valerie Watts (Oklahoma Symphony). During that time she also studied with Walfrid Kujala (Chicago Symphony and Northeastern State University in Illinois), Bonita Boyd (Rochester Philharmonic & Eastman School of Music, New York) and Stephen Kujala (Freelance Jazz Flutist, Los Angeles, CA).
At Baylor University, she worked as a Graduate Assistant in teaching flute students while studying with Helen Ann Shanley (a student of George Morey and Marcel Moyse). Also, while at Baylor, she studied with Julius Baker (New York Philharmonic & Julliard School of Music).
