The Sandusky County Prevention Partnership Coalition will be hosting a session for local professionals and community members. This training Scared Straight, "This is Your Brain on Drugs," Nick Car Crashes. All of these prevention messages have a common thread- they're intended to shock and aren't always effective. In this session, participants will explore "do" in the place of "don't" and how positive prevention messaging can have a greater impact on your community. Participants will learn new ways to take messaging that is proven to be effective and use it in their own community. Presenter is Harim Ellis, Director of Youth-Led Programs at Prevention Action Alliance.

 

 Objectives- in this presentation, participants will:

  • Gain knowledge on prevention practices that have historically had negative impact (i.e. Scare Tactics)
  • Learn about effective positive approaches to prevention
  • Understand the importance prevention practices and how to develop messaging that is most impactful on their community of Problem Gambling and Scott Anderson, Problem Gambling Specialist-- both from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services
