Powerful Coaching is about conversation at its best. This five-step paradigm can transform lives. Powerful Coaching is designed to create velocity and results. It is applicable to self, one-on-one work, two parties, and small groups. This course will teach participants profound coaching tools, provide solid practice opportunities, and offer a safe place to explore and experience the powerful impact of giving and receiving coaching.

Instructor bio:

Cynthia Mazur, JD, PhD

Cynthia Mazur is the Director for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. She is a mentor/mediator in the Federal Shared Neutrals Program. At the D.C. Superior Court she mediates domestic cases and child abuse and neglect cases. She arbitrates legal malpractice and fee dispute cases for the D.C. Bar and mediates these cases, as well. The D.C. Bar gave her a Special Merit Award in 2005. Ms. Mazur has been with FEMA since 1991. She most recently was the Associate General Counsel for Program Law. FEMA OCC awarded Cindy the Shirley Levy Award in 2007. Before coming to FEMA, Ms. Mazur was awarded a Teaching Fellowship at Georgetown University Law Center. She taught in the Appellate Clinic for two years, handling prisoner civil rights and criminal defense cases. She earned her L.L.M. in Appellate Advocacy. Prior to that, she was an Associate, practicing employment law at the D.C. firm of Akin, Gump, Straus, Hauer & Feld. She came to D.C. from a Judicial Clerkship in the Fourth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals, working on prisoner civil rights cases. Ms. Mazur received a scholarship to attend the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France in 1991. She received her J.D. from Syracuse University in 1986 and was a member of the Justinian Honorary Law Society. She earned an M. Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary and served a bi-racial church on Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota as an ordained minister. This created an interest in Indian law. She graduated cum laude with her B.A. in English/Education from Hartwick College in New York. Ms. Mazur is licensed to practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and New York.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation
A fee equal to 30% of the registration cost of the course will apply for any changes to registration (cancellation, re-scheduling) made less than 10 calendar days in advance. This fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be applied to future classes.

Refund
Refunds may be processed in the following ways: credit to be used on a course of equal or lesser value within a year from being awarded or by check. Please allow 7-10 business days for processing.

No-show
Participants who register for the training but do not attend or cancel their registration less than 48 hours prior to the start of the training will be billed the full tuition cost of the training.

Northern Virginia Mediation Service is a community dispute resolution center in Fairfax, Virginia affiliated with the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University and a member of the Virginia Association for Community Conflict Resolution. The mission of NVMS is to equip the Northern Virginia community to constructively address conflict by providing: 1) Mediation, facilitation, and restorative practice services to resolve disagreements, 2) Training to develop skilled practitioners who deliver mediation, facilitation, and restorative practice services, and 3) Education for community members about alternative approaches to addressing conflict.
