The UIUC chapter of the Foundation for the International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) was established in 2007 with the goal of improving healthcare for children worldwide. Since then, hundreds of chapter members have traveled abroad to FIMRC clinics in countries such as Nicaragua, Uganda, Costa Rica, and India on medical missions trips to work alongside doctors treating patients, put together health education programs children in the local community, and learn more about the critical issues affecting healthcare for children in other countries. At home, chapter members have volunteered thousands of hours locally in Urbana-Champaign at food pantries, child education programs, refugee centers, nursing homes, and more to improve the local community as well. The chapter prides itself on its active volunteer base and its diversity of volunteering opportunities.
