In 1968, after the assassinations of MLK Jr. and Robert Kennedy, Maynard Jackson, Jr. announced his candidacy for the Georgia U.S. Senate against known segregationist, Herman Talmadge. His loss ultimately ignited a movement in the South that was started by Dr. King and later resumed by Jackson. The “enforcer” of affirmative action and voter turnout, Jackson crafted successful diversity, inclusion & engagement templates still practiced today, transforming the reputation of Atlanta from the “heart of the confederate South” to a cosmopolitan world-class city.

The Raleigh (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. This fiscal year the Raleigh Links will celebrate 70 years in this community. The Maynard movie screening is the first of several events marking 70 years of service to Raleigh, Wake County and surrounding communities. We are excited to be a part of bringing this wonderful documentary to Raleigh during a time when the issues he thought were critical are still at the forefront of the Raleigh & Triangle community's progress.
