I think that we have to be very humble about this right now. Weve often been so self-congratulatory because, many people feel, weve made great strides. The numbers dont really support that.

-Thomas Insel, Director, National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH)

during an interview with filmmaker Kevin P. Miller

In late May 2014, after two years of requests and cajoling, international award-winning filmmaker Kevin P. Miller secured an interview with the most powerful public figure in mental health, Dr. Thomas Insel. When he contacted NIMH, Miller outlined his backgroundincluding his previous film Generation Rx, which pertained to the widespread use of psychotropics among children and teens. After hed run the gauntlet of NIMH questions and requests, Insel and his lieutenants clearly knew who Miller was. There was no trickery or sleight-of-hand; all Miller promised was a respectful, science-based conversation, which ultimately took place on May 28, 2014. It was the first such interview ever granted.

Miller left NIMH with an astonishing and historic interview, full of insights, criticisms and radical departures from the norms of mental health. It will be featured in his new film LETTERS FROM GENERATION RX, slated for a Fall 2014 release.

I think the question as we pose to ourselves is, fundamentally, why have we failed here? Why has the suicide rate not come down? Why have the measuresdisability, whatever those might bewhy have those continued to go up instead of down? All of the numbers are going in the wrong direction, so where, where have we failed?  Thomas Insel

Miller is the first filmmaker to attain an interview with such an influential figure in mental health. If the movement wishes to capitalize on this historic opportunity, the future is indeed now. LETTERS FROM GENERATION RX is a transformative film; it tells the intimate stories of real people who share their powerful tragedies in addition to some of the movements most beloved leaders. But it needs your support.  Order your advanced copy of the film today!
