Join us!  See details below!Dear Corporate Leader:

It is my pleasure to invite you to participate in an important conversation happening with employers all over the country.  Please join us for a Fair Chance Hiring Corporate Leadership Round Table, hosted by the Iowa-Nebraska State Area Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. We will hold two sessions. In Nebraska join us on Agust 29  from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Hilton Omaha located at 1001 Cass Street, Omaha, NE 69102; or in Iowa join us on August 30, 2017 from 8:30 to 11:30 AM at Mercy Medical Center - East Tower located at 1111 6th Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50314

“Fair Chance Hiring,” also known as “Ban the Box,” is a strategy endorsed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The policy has also been adopted by the federal government and 29 states have laws around fair chance hiring.  It is gaining momentum in the private sector and practiced by companies like Walmart, Target, Starbucks and Koch Industries. The practice bans asking on a job application whether an applicant has been convicted of a crime. By delaying this question until later in the hiring process, qualified candidates with a criminal past a better opportunity at employment and employers don’t blanket exclude great potential employees.

As an executive at your company, we are inviting you because we know you are committed to good corporate citizenship, and you also recognize the challenges in finding and retaining skilled employees. This round table will be an opportunity to connect with other corporate leaders who share this commitment and to learn more about the NAACP as we work to support and expand fair chance hiring practices as well as our other initiatives.  The round table has the following objectives:

·         Debunk myths about fair chance hiring and showcase best practices that yield long-term benefits for employers, job candidates and communities

·         Hear from national and local presenters as they share strategies, stories, and experiences of companies that have committed to banning the box

·         Learn about the importance of this issue to the NAACP, and the ways we hope to support efforts that expand employment opportunities for the 70 million Americans with criminal records

·         Give corporate leadership a comfortable setting in which to discuss their questions about this issue

We are excited to begin this important conversation with you.  We look forward to being able to support and enrich your efforts to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. Ideally this workshop is for CEOs or other executives, and human resources directors and management.  Please feel free to RSVP up to three representatives by August 25, 2017 to ensure an accurate food count.
