Indian Tree Open Space Preserve, 3425 Vineyard Rd, Novato, Ca, 94945, United States.

Join Jack from Wild Birds Unlimited for a bird walk at Novato's Indian Tree Open Space Preserve on Sunday, March 18th from 9-11 AM. This quiet preserve contains Novato's only real conifer forest, with both redwoods and Douglas-firs creating ideal habitat for a variety of forest birds that are relatively uncommon in our part of the county, such as varied thrushes, Pacific wrens, golden-crowned kinglets, and breeding hermit thrushes in addition to other woodland favorites like band-tailed pigeons and a wide variety of woodpeckers. We'll also be paying attention to birdsong and other vocalizations as birds prepare for the nesting season.

Participation is free, but this walk is limited to a small group size due to the singletrack trails we'll be walking on. Note that we'll be walking around 4 miles, with about 600 ft. of mostly gradual elevation gain. For more information on the birds of Indian Tree, see our park profile on our Nature in Novato blog. If you have any questions about the walk, please contact us at wbumarin@gmail.com or (415) 893-0500.

Indian Tree is located at the end of Vineyard Rd in western Novato. From Hwy 101, take the exit for San Marin Dr west 2.7 miles. San Marin Dr turns into Sutro Ave at Novato Blvd. Follow Sutro Ave 1 mile, turn right at Vineyard Rd and follow 1 mile until the paved road turns to gravel. For GPS, you can use the address 3425 Vineyard Rd, which is the last house before the trailhead. Don’t park in their driveway.
