FSRT Provider Orientation

Becoming a Provider

Coaches wishing to become an FSRT Provider are required to attend a one-day orientation event and complete a provider logbook. This is open to updated coaches with one of the following requirements:

  • Level 3 Coach, plus alternative Kayak or Canoe 3 star award OR
  • Moderate Water Coach Award or equivalent, plus alternative Kayak or Canoe 3 Star award OR
  • Coach Award (Canoe and Kayak) with a minimum of 100 logged coaching hours with a range of craft in the sheltered water environment after achieving the qualification.

The logbook process requires the aspirant provider to complete the following (in order):

  • Attend a one day FSRT Provider Orientation.
  • Complete an action plan, including assisting on, or observing courses with existing providers.
  • Assessed Delivery – arrange for an existing provider to assess your delivery of an FSRT Course. The authorising provider must have delivered at least three FSRT courses and have attended FSRT Moderation (both within the last three years).

On completion of the above tasks, the logbook should be returned to the Home Nation for verification and registration as an FSRT Provider.

Thank you for booking your place on the FSRT Provider Orientation event on Saturday 4th November 2017. Ahead of this event we would like to make you aware of some important information.

General Course Information:

The course programme/ timings will be confirmed on the day; however, it is important to note that this will be a predominantly water based event and active participation in the water based activities is an essential part of the event and is required for successful attendance and being able to move into the development phase of the Foundation Safety and Rescue Provider role.

The Orientation trainer will support your development of a detailed action plan and make a recommendation, based on your contribution during the event:

After the orientation event, you will be required to work alongside existing FSRT providers until you have completed your action plan and are ready for final sign off

What to Bring with You:

Equipment:  The programme for the day includes water-based activities and as it is an orientation event you will need to be involved both in terms of delivery and on/ in the water, so please bring with you all personal kit (including a canoe and kayak of your choice) listed within the syllabus and ensure that you are dressed appropriately for a day in and out of the water.

Lunch: Please note, lunch and refreshments are provided for this event.

Accommodation:

Please note, Accommodation is not provided.

Pre-course Information

To aid you in preparing for the course, please familiarise yourself with the syllabus and course notes which can be found on the British Canoeing website via the following link: http://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/course-providers-information/foundation-safety-and-rescue-training-fsrt/

As part of your action plan you will be asked to develop your own Learning Programme and risk assessments for your FSRT courses – if you have started to develop these already, bringing a paper based copy will allow the trainer to review them and support your development of this area.

As this course involves a considerable portion of practical activities, it may be cancelled at short notice due to adverse weather conditions or inappropriate water levels, as identified on your booking form. In this instance you will receive a full refund or be transferred onto another course, but no compensation will be offered.

Cancellation policy
