Emotional Communication Series
Emotional communication is both the common experience of resonating emotionally with another person or group and a specific clinical technique. Modern psychoanalysis offers a range of theory based, goal-directed techniques in which clinicians use repeated countertransference emotional inductions to make interventions. This series offers four seminars on the use of emotional communication: in clinical work and training, in the classroom setting, in family life and with people suffering from dementia.

Lorette Dussault, Psya.D., and her daughter Jessica Richards will share their experiences of the impact of emotional communication on adoption, attachment, and family dynamics.
Presenters:
Dr. Dussault has extensive clinical and administrative experience in the foster care system. Her daughter, Jessica Richards, and she share personal experience in that system as well.
Continuing Education Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Describe the impact of types of emotional communication on family dynamics as they relate to the experience of adoption and attachment.
- Discuss the underlying theoretical concepts as to the effectiveness of emotional communication: when it is indicated, and when it may fail or succeed.
- Apply the use of emotional communication to one’s own clinical work or family.
