TELL Therapist Jono Lee (MSW, LICSW, LMHC) will present a workshop on effective communication.
Part 1: Learning the 4 different styles of communication and how they affect our relationships with others (passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive and assertive). There will be examples and role plays that demonstrates these communication styles, also we will practice being assertive with specific techniques that we can use during communication.
Part 2: Active listening. We will be learning about the importance of good listening skills and how they're often neglected in our communication. Starting from exploring the mentality and attitude to listening, we will also try out practical scenarios to practice active listening skills to gain first hand experience.
By the end of the talk, our aim is that we will all become more aware of our own communication styles, also become more confident in being assertive when we speak and being more effective as we listen. These tools will reflect in changes and improvements in our relationships.
