Join NASW DC Metro Chapter for a 3 hour continuing education workshop discussing the suicide awareness and prevention with the LGBTQ population. This workshop will include lecture, discussion, and case scenarios to aid mental health professionals in providing culturally competency services in this area.
Participants will be able to:
1. Improve an overall understanding of cultural competency as it applies to the LGBTQ population;
2. Identify “sexual orientation” vs. “gender identity”;
3. Define the scope of LGBTQ Suicide;
4. Identify both risk and protective factors as applied to the LGBTQ community;
5. Increase knowledge of cultural competence with regards to prevention methods for the LGBTQ population.
This workshop meets the requirements for the LGBTQ cultural competency requirement for social workers and other mental health professionals. 3 contact hours of LGBTQ cultural competency will be awarded for attendance of this workshop. CE certificates are included in the registration cost.
