Control/Defensive Tactics

The control tactics portion includes 8 hours of principles of movement and relative positioning which, combined with effective and dynamic tactics, ensure officers’ success and safety during subject control and escort. This is followed by 8 hours of blocks, takedowns and restraints – tactics which conclude with a handcuffed subject every time. To complete the program, trainers may take either 32 hours of elective courses or 16 hours of Handgun/Long Gun Retention and Disarming (which has integrated defensive tactics and firearms training) and 16 hours of elective courses.

Upon successful completion of the first 16 hours, trainers receive Trainer Certification in the Control/Defensive Tactics Trainer Certification Course. Upon successful completion of each elective course, trainers receive Trainer Certification in that course.

Equipment needed: Casual or athletic clothing, mat shoes or socks.
